The Value of Everybody

What do you remember about 1993? I remember that Dallas beat Buffalo 52-17 in the Super Bowl! But, another thing that happened was that a new kind of encyclopedia was born. Until then, it was the Encyclopedia Britannica.  Remember that? A 1,000 pound set of books.

But, in ’93 Microsoft Encarta was launched. It was an entire encyclopedia on a CD you simply stuck in your computer.

To pull it off, Microsoft hired a small army of writers, supervisors and professors to verify the information. People with Masters degrees carefully researched information, a team of writers compiled it, and a group of editors corrected it and Microsoft published it.

Gone were the days of having to wrestle your way through enough volumes to fill a wheel barrel. Now all the world’s information was on one CD-ROM. Quickly Britannica was gone as the #1 encyclopedia in the world. Now, the encyclopedia was digital.

Then, just a few years later, the game changed again. Encarta decreased in popularity and was eclipsed by another encyclopedia. The most popular Encyclopedia in the world today is not Britannica or Encarta. It’s Wikipedia.

But, Wikipedia didn’t hire professors and editors to write the content. They didn’t build a massive staff to verify that every detail was correct. Do you know who writes the articles at Wikipedia? You and me! Other people. Everybody. No professionals… just everyday people who contributed.

I’m so pumped about kicking off “40 Days In The Word” this weekend at C3 Church. One of the reasons is that we’re going to experience the power of “everybody” diving into God’s Word.

Acts 4:13 says, “When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.”

Everybody contributing to their own spiritual growth and a Church of ordinary people spending time with Jesus each day… we’re going to see God move in huge ways! It’s what I love about C3, it’s not an institution it’s a movement of people pursuing Jesus and helping others know Him.
