Invitation to Life

If you’re a part of the C3 movement, this is for you (if you’re part of another church, then do this for your church - if you can’t, find a church where you can).

You know it’s our culture to love God and love others - to go after people who are far from God.  This Sunday we’re finishing our “Bodacious ’80’s” series.  The message this week is one that every single person we know needs to hear.  Would you purpose to invite as many people as possible, between now and Saturday night, to come to C3 Sunday morning.

I’m not talking about your friend who goes to another church… I’m talking about your friends who don’t go (or you don’t know if they go).  It’s simple - “Hey, you’ve got to come check out my church this weekend.  I think you’ll love it - it’s not like anything you’ve seen or heard of before.“  That’s it.  Just a simple invitation.  If they ask questions, answer them.  Then let them know you’ll meet them in front of the theaters, or in the lobby -wherever they’re comfortable with.

There are people who you and I know that we’ve prayed for, thought about, talked to some - this is the week to get them there.  Invest and invite - it makes a difference because it changes a life.

C3 Postgame

It’s been a long but good day.  Here are a few highlights:

  • God moved in people’s lives this morning at C3.
  • Great nap.
  • Trip to a special coffee shop this afternoon.
  • Took Kayleigh on her first Harley ride tonight.
  • Almost forgot this one.  A couple days ago we’re riding down the rode and Ethan says, “I need to take a Yoga class.“  We responded, “What?!” and he repeated his desire.  When we asked why he said, “I’m tired of being grumpy in the mornings.“  Apparently he thinks Yoga would be the answer to all the stresses in the life of a 7 year old.  He’s definitely my boy (grumpy in the mornings) and Angie’s boy (in to Yoga).
  • Axel’s still alive… miracle.
  • I’m really excited about the next series at C3 - “I wish Jesus hadn’t said…”
  • I felt good overall about the services this morning.
  • I love my bride.
  • I love my kids.
  • I love one of our dogs (sometimes…).
  • I’m proud of the cowboys.

Goodnight… Peace.

Tomorrow @ C3

The weather in Central FL is amazing now.  What a day!

Tomorrow we continue with the “Bodacious 80’s” series.  So far we’ve looked at:

Livin’ On A Prayer, Something To Believe In, and Total Eclipse of the Heart.

Tomorrow we’ll hear another classic from the 80’s then look at what God has to say about the same theme.

I’ve really enjoyed this series, but I’m also really pumped about our next one.  Beginning September 21 we’re starting “I Wish Jesus Hadn’t Said…“  In this series we’re going to look at some difficult things that Jesus said, things that many times we wish he hadn’t said… but he did.  So, we’ll ask the question, “what does that mean for my life today?”

C3 - invest and invite.  Don’t forget to pick up your gift cards and connect with the people you’ve invited during the week.

Nuf Said…

As we were intentionally transitioning to become a more effective church in reaching the unchurched we heard from a couple of young “theologians.”  There were a number of people that we had supported through seminary (paying for all or some of their education).  However, as we began to change things (which resulted in greater results in reaching people), some of them couldn’t “tolerate” or “agree with” our new direction.

So, one of them was so courageous in his beliefs that he sent a note saying he no longer agreed with us, and he also returned the check for that semester (his last semester).

If you’re going in ministry, please don’t function this way.  It may be cool for elite intellects or cowards but it’s not real leadership.  This person never had a conversation with me or anyone on my staff.  Since I never got to speak with him, I just have one question:  Where’s the rest of the money we sent you?  I’m sure since you have such a high objection to the way we’re doing church now (again, reaching more people) you wouldn’t want to keep any of the “tainted money.“  I’ve been checking the mail everyday because I’m sure the rest is on the way - surely you wouldn’t just send the last check when the rest of your education had been covered!

Another guy we supported got mad and shot off a note because we talked in a message about being healthy.  I’m sure this had to do with your great theological concerns… not the fact that you’re obese.  Please brotha…

In fact out of all the guys whose education we invested in, I got “thank you” notes from two!

Here’s the deal - when you’re young and feel that God wants you to give your life to full-time ministry, don’t become a professional ministry critic.  Just because you’re young and passionate doesn’t mean you’ve reached a level of enlightenment the rest of us lack.  Don’t walk around with a sense of entitlement - don’t expect things for free or take it for granted when you receive a gift.  Learn all you can from people’s mistakes and victories but as you apply it be consistent and focus on what’s really important -reaching people!

I could say so much more, but I’ve got to go check the mail, I think we’re getting a check… NOT!

That’s What She Said…

It’s been a long day, but a great one.  A few thoughts before crashing tonight:

  • The attendance today at C3 was amazing - much better than I expected for a holiday weekend.
  • My baby nailed “Total Eclipse of the Heart” - wow.
  • Great spirit today - people very receptive.
  • I’m loving “Bodacious 80’s”
  • I’m actually taking the motorcycle safety class this week…
  • I’m ready to kill Axel (not really but maybe)
  • Next week is going to be huge - invest and invite like crazy this week.  Seriously, invite someone everyday!

(That’s what she said has nothing to do with this post, I just think love the phrase and am ready for some Office!).  Peace out!
