Church Marketing

I know there are a ton of opinions about church marketing.  Some guys say they never do any, and others build an entire system of marketing for their church.  At C3 we have found that strategic and intentional marketing is a huge asset.  Recently, I walked into an office building and a man in the room said, “I know who you are!“  I get this often, but when I asked how this man’s answer intrigued me.  He said, “You’re church has great marketing, because it doesn’t look like a church did it!“  This guy is a professional in our community, very successful… and it wasn’t just that we market, it was that we are strategic and intentional in the creation and execution of the marketing.  We also evaluate quarterly to see what’s working.  If what we’re investing in isn’t producing results, we stop.  We also kill some things that are working to try new things to see if they have better traction.

However, with all we’ve done - there is one thing that stands above all the others in producing results, and we didn’t even do it for marketing!  The best “marketing” hasn’t been our billboards, mailers, ads, etc.  The best marketing has been a unique partnership C3 has formed with “Feed The Children.”  On three occasions now we have adopted families in need and fed them (once for a week and twice for an entire month - different families each time).  Something special happens when you invest not just in what’s pretty or cool, but a deeper investment in those who are hurting and in need gets people’s attention.  Let me be clear, we didn’t do it for the purpose of marketing… we did it to be like Jesus.  Jesus had a heart for and helped people who could do nothing for him, but had real needs.  As we’ve purposed to flow like Jesus, and reach out to those who are hurting and in need, God takes care of the rest.  There’s been nothing we’ve done that has resulted in more life-change (people coming to Christ, being baptized, getting plugged into serving and Community Groups) like the partnership with FTC.  People really just want to know we care, and at C3 we’re changing people’s opinions about Church because we care!

Pastors - I’m pumped to be able to share with you that “Feed The Children” will be @ The Xcel Experience!  You will be able to learn how they can partner with you to make a huge difference in your community, make the name of Jesus famous, and change the perception of church for people far from God.  Don’t miss Xcel!  Also, check Xcel’s website regularly because we have a number of things in the works that are huge and we’ll be updating periodically.  Registration begins June 15!

Today @ C3

Today we launched “You Asked” @ C3 Church.  I love the passion of the people of C3 to pursue Christ and lean into him rather than tradition.  I’m tired but wanted to crank out a few thoughts:

  • Today’s question was, “Can A Christ-follower Drink Alcohol?” - if you’re interested in today’s flow, check out C3’s site and listen to the message - it will be up by Tuesday afternoon.
  • When you deal with potentially divisive issues, you have to make a decision.  You have to decide if your purpose is to please people or God.  You also have to remember that you speak for God, his truth, to people he is crazy in love with… so you better come from a perspective of love.
  • Several people made decisions to become Christ-followers this morning.
  • It’s hard to change your mind.  Honestly, there are issues that I’ve wrestled with and it’s really tough to abandon what you’ve been taught to embrace truth.  Not because of what people think, but because I’m a husband and dad before I’m a pastor.  I desire to love my bride and raise my kids from the depth of truth, not the facade of traditions.
  • I’m headed to Texas this week for a family reunion.  Excited about seeing family, dreading the drive…
  • Next weekend we continue “You Asked” @ C3 with “Why Do Bad Things Happen?”
  • Major news coming tomorrow about The Xcel Experience.

This week, purpose to love God and love others and live life to it’s fullest.

My Day

Today at C3 Church we wrapped up “Life. Money. Hope.” with Dave Ramsey.  This is a series made possible by Lifechurch.  Dave spoke there and they filmed it for churches to be able to use.  Got to say - best series I’ve seen/heard on money.  (Pastors… use this series - seriously, use it - it will help your people a ton!).

After the C3 gatherings we got to hang with some friends from Texas for lunch - great time catching up.

Tonight I’m just worn out… not sure why - didn’t really sleep well last night.  So, few thoughts bout my day:

  • you-asked-logogreat attendance @ C3 for a holiday weekend… much better than I expected.
  • Can’t wait for “You Asked” beginning next Sunday - kicking off with “Can a Christ-follower drink?” - gonna be a blast (for some :-) ).
  • Excited about C3 hosting the “Xcel Experience” this October - gonna rock! (pastors… check out the site - love to see you there!).
  • Love my bride.  Seriously - greatest woman I’ve ever known.  Her compassion for people and passion for Christ are contagious (and she can stinkin bring it leading worship!).
  • Really looking forward to a family day tomorrow… our kids make each day …interesting - keeps us young and old at the same time.
  • Diesel is growing… fast… really fast.
  • Angie’s purse-dog, Sugar Boy, doesn’t seem to appreciate Diesel…

Finally, I’m grateful.  Tomorrow we celebrate Memorial Day.  We remember those who’ve given their lives for freedom and in protection of this nation.  Right now there are countless thousands of men and women serving our nation… serving us… and I’m grateful.  To those who’ve served in our military, or are serving, thank you.  My prayers and deepest gratitude are with you.

C3 to Host the “Xcel Experience”

Loved today @ C3 Church!  The series, “Life. Money. Hope.” with Dave Ramsey continues to be huge.  This afternoon C3 also had a special baptism service… it’s always fresh and real to watch people take that step of faith - just in the last 2 or 3 months we’ve baptized about 50 people… and there’s still more!

Today I shared something major with C3.  Each week I talk with (or email/Facebook/Twitter) pastors I’ve never met or talked with.  I continue to meet and interact with guys passionate about reaching people and hungry to see God change lives big time.  As pastors hear about the transition/birth of C3, many are intrigued.  From this, God has given us a huge opportunity to share our experiences (successes and failures) with other churches.

I sensed that one day we would do this on a larger scale, and now that time has come.  The big announcement today was that we’ve partnered with National Cinemedia to host the “Xcel Experience” (Xcel standing for accelerate) this October (11-13).  National Cinemedia is the organization churches go through to lease theaters.  Their leadership has such a huge heart for churches making a major difference.

So, at the “Xcel Experience” Pastors and staffs (and their spouses) will come from all over our nation to C3 as we talk through transitioning, launching, going multi-site and a number of real issues churches are facing.  We’re also going to make available some unbelievable resources for churches to use (from message series logo’s, intro videos, messages, etc. to legal documents, web design opportunities and more).  I’m also pumped to partner with some incredible pastors and leaders from across the nation who will be sharing @ the “Xcel Experience”.

God’s given me a passion to invest in pastors as we learn together.  I’m also privileged to pastor the greatest church on the planet.  C3 - it’s because of the way that you pray, serve, give, invite and love God and others that you’re making the name of Jesus famous!  I love you and the ride God has us on together!

The “Xcel” website will be launching soon… I’ll keep you posted.

Tomorrow We Let It Fly

Tomorrow I’m not bringing the message @ C3 - we’re going to hear from Dave Ramsey again as we continue “Life. Money. Hope.

I will, however, be sharing in the service one of the most important things I’ve ever talked about.  Several days ago I mentioned that there was something huge in the works for C3 Church - the biggest thing we’ve ever done and it will have major impact, not only in Central Florida but literally across the nation.  Well… tomorrow I will talk about it.  You’re going to find out one of the many things God is doing in and through C3 big time.  So, great message by Dave Ramsey and huge announcement… don’t miss it… and invest and invite!!!
