One
Posted on July 27th, 2008.One has such power. One word, one smile, one thoughtful gesture. Just one. One life changed, one future brighter, just one.
Sometimes in ministry we can get caught in the funk of the masses. This morning I was reminded of the value of one. I spent time with one family in between our morning services (by the way – 1st hour attendance was up, and second hour was packed – and it’s still summer!). This family is precious – and they are hurting.
Last Sunday there 31 year old son, Victor, came to C3 for the first time. He brought his 4 daughters with him. After the service he called his Aunt and told her all about the service and how he was certain now that he knew Christ. Then, during the night he ended his life.
There are obviously more questions than answers. But, here’s one question we can ponder – what if he hadn’t come to C3 last week?
One Mom (his mom) stayed with the kids in our children’s environment so he would be comfortable to go to the service and not worry. One set of parents invited their son to come to church. One greeter, one at a time smiled and shook his hand as he entered C3. One musician, one singer, one usher – they all made him feel welcome, and God used them to connect with him. So, on that one day he encountered God. And, now… one week later his parents, even in their deep grief, know where his is.
As we wrapped up Jude today I was burdened to communicate the passion and urgency of Jude 22-23, “Be merciful to those who doubt; snatch others from the fire and save them…”
Will you please pray for at least one family this week (the Gonzalez family)?
Who is that one that God has placed in your life? Who is Christ wanting you to be merciful to this week? Who will you invite, what one will come next Sunday because of your Christ-life? What one family – one Mom and one Dad will be grateful for your influence in their son or daughter’s life? One. What will you do for one?
