It’s Coming Like A Mack Truck…

This week has been intense! When relocating a church, there are a million moving parts and each one needs attention. Our Management Team is doing an unbelievable job navigating this process. These people love Jesus, C3 Church, and people. They tirelessly and selflessly give of themselves continuously. You really can’t achieve a dream without a great team! I’m more than grateful.

I’m also grateful for the way the people of C3 have responded to our C3 Christmas project. Last Sunday we gave away over $10,000 to our members in envelopes with 20’s, 50’s and 100’s. The investment was and is to be an investment in our community. The challenge is to intentionally look for someone to help. You can’t spend it on yourself, and you can’t give it to the church, and we asked people to email us with what they’d done at christmas@c3orlando.com. The stories are rolling in - it’s amazing. There is something so powerful about focusing on the needs of others. We know that Jesus told us to love God and love others, but sometimes we get mission drift. We lose our focus and purpose. It’s interesting that Jesus said you and I would do even greater things than he did. If that doesn’t describe my life or my church, then the reason might be a lack of focus and intentionality.

I love the Barbaric nature of C3 - this Sunday we continue “Barbaric Grace” - we will look at another life principle that is helpful in reaching our potential and fulfilling our lives. Invest and Invite!

By the way, if you haven’t seen Insight East Orlando’s December Issue - check it out - they did an awesome article on C3 and our relocation (you can see the online version here - the hard copy is in stores all over East Orlando and mailed to some homes)! It’s coming …51 days…

Connecting

Tonight Angie and I met with one of the C3 Community Groups (formerly called Home Teams). It is so refreshing to be around people who are difference makers. I love the people of C3 - people who get it! Sundays are incredible because of how God moves, but these experiences - small groups in homes are more intimate and close. Over the next few days I’m meeting with all our Community Groups to simply share where we are and what needs to be accomplished for our relocation. Also, to remind us of the need to pray! Nothing can be accomplished of any value that is not empowered through prayer by God moving.

I’m also excited about Sunday - we’re continuing the “Barbaric Grace” series as we prepare for our mission, our move, and our future. By the way - made some huge decisions today… God really answers prayer! I’m pumped!

All I Need

Just thinking:

  • Huge meetings this week - I need your prayers.
  • Major decisions to make this week - I need your prayers.
  • Massive opportunities this week - I need your prayers.
  • God counting on me to know him and his will this week - I need your prayers.
  • Ethan has now decided that no one wants a pastor who is bald - I need your prayers (and so does he now).
  • Went to HD to get a Christmas tree - they only had about 10 (no shipment today) - could have gone somewhere else but just didn’t feel like it - I need your prayers (my kids are not happy about this).
  • I tried to sit on Angie’s Ruby Red Fainting Couch - I need your prayers (so does the… couch).
  • Had an hour long photo shoot for our family Christmas Card - I need your prayers.
  • I now want to give away $10,500 every Sunday - I love giving!!! - Barry needs your prayers.
  • Angie’s now sitting on the Ruby Red Fainting Couch - I need your prayers!

We all need prayer. I’m praying for C3ers as you decide how to invest for the C3 Christmas project. I know God will use you to answer prayers and touch lives. I want to hear these stories, email me at christmas@c3orlando.com.

You Can’t Do That!… Really? We Just Did!

It was awesome to be back at C3 today. I enjoyed the time off last week with family, but I always miss C3 so much when I’m gone. This morning was incredible. The atmosphere was electric and our numbers were up even though it is a holiday weekend and typically a down weekend.

We decided to do something Barbaric today. Have you ever thought about how blessed we are? At C3, we are blessed! We’ve decided to be a blessing. We’ve sold 60,000+ square feet to reach 160,000 people within 5 miles of Waterford Town Center. How… How will we have an impact? As we move to Regal Cinemas in January, what can we do to grab the attention of the 86% of Floridians who NEVER attend church?

It’s simple… love them. When Jesus was asked what the greatest commandment was he said, “love God with everything you have… and love others.” What does love look like? How did Jesus love people? I believe it’s having a profound concern for the well being of others that motivates you to act to meet a need - putting someone else’s needs, wants, desires, circumstances above your own. What if the church really loved the community. This morning we checked out a number of passages - here’s one:

Tell those rich in this world’s wealth to quit being so full of themselves and so obsessed with money, which is here today and gone tomorrow. Tell them to go after God, who piles on all the riches we could ever manage—to do good, to be rich in helping others, to be extravagantly generous. If they do that, they’ll build a treasury that will last, gaining life that is truly life. 1 Timothy 6:17-19 (MSG)

For the Christ-follower this is not optional. As Americans we are unbelievably blessed - Rob Bell breaks this down in his video Rich (which we used this morning). We must “do good” and “be rich in helping others” and “be extravagantly generous.” So, today at C3 we did the unthinkable, nontraditional, illogical… but supernaturally barbaric…

We gave away $10,500!!! Each person took an envelope with a $20, $50, or $100 in it and will use it to meet a need in someones life. It’s the C3 Christmas project. The requirements - 1) you can’t spend it on yourself, 2) you can’t give it to the church, 3) tell us how you use the money to care for someone else.

I can’t wait to hear the stories of how God uses this in lives. What if a church really, really… really cared? C3 does! Instead of reliving a predictable, stagnant past what if we determined to create a future? What if we began to view life differently, people differently? It’s not about giving money. It’s about intentionally being aware and asking God to use us to impact the lives of those he strategically places in our paths… our neighbors.

Invest and Invite - you ain’t seen nothin’ yet! Next week we continue “Barbaric Grace.”
